It all started with an interior design project that needed both a durable and cool floor covering with a pleasant feeling like walking in the forest – with a structure that you can feel underfoot, and a visual that would be surprising and unprecedented.
Coming up with a functional product solution is always the most exciting part of the work. So I started!
In the first version of the POHL rug, I used red wooden pearls, as if they were lingonberries. (PS! Lingonberry is POHL in estonian)
The shiny pearls were worthy of attention and demanded attention.
In the third part, felted dots and a tufted, shaggy rug surface came together. This is the POHL collection!
- The pattern is formed by durable, handfelted dots, using both new and recycled woollen material.
The felted dots come in 8 shades – a gradation from white to black and bright orange, red and turquoise. - The shaggy handtufted rug surface is the background for the felted "lingonberries".
- The rug surface can be made in a total of 80 colours, from two different types of woollen yarn:
- The shaggy surface of POHL rugs is made of a strong structured yarn. This 100% New Zealand woollen yarn is specially developed for hand-tufted rugs and is more strongly multiplied and fixed than regular woollen yarn – this adds shine to the rug surface and ensures it´s durability.
- The soft and fluffy surface of POHL B rugs is made of unique rope-like felted yarn, made from 100% New Zealand wool. The yarn with its distinct fluff makes any room feel like home.
PS! POHL woollen rugs have a fire resistance certificate (corresponding qualification Cfl-s1), making them ideal for use in public spaces as well.
In addition, whether placed on the floor or on the wall, wool rugs provide sound damping effect.
Simple, not ordinary.
There are more berries and dots in the forest :)
